According to President Obama's budget
projections, federal and state welfare spending will total $10.3
trillion over the next 10 years (FY 2009 to FY 2018). This spending
will equal $250,000 for each person currently living in poverty in the
U.S., or $1 million for a poor family of four.
The
military is growing impatient with Obama. The Obama administration is sending mixed signals about its objectives there and how many troops are needed to achieve them.
The conflicting messages are drawing increasing ire from U.S. commanders in Afghanistan and frustrating military leaders

The Obama administration has privately concluded that a cap and trade
law would cost American taxpayers up to $200 billion a year, the
equivalent of hiking personal income taxes by about 15 percent.
A previously unreleased analysis prepared by the U.S. Department of
Treasury says the total in new taxes would be between $100 billion to
$200 billion a year. At the upper end of the administration's estimate,
the cost per American household would be an extra $1,761 a year.
The Obama administration has for the first time set out its views on
the controversial USA Patriot Act, telling lawmakers this week that
legal approval of government surveillance methods scheduled to expire
in December should be renewed, but leaving room to tweak the law to
protect Americans' privacy.
Another
first for the Obama administration: This week the House is scheduled to approve H.R. 3221, an education lending bill that CBO reports will increase the deficit by $50 billion.
The bill includes a little-known provision to give the Secretary of

The Treasury Department said it will begin winding down
one of the emergency programs created at the height of the financial

reached last year. By reducing the size of the program
